Mr. Ranpati Dewage Jineris from Weweldeniya in the Western province of Sri Lanka made his humble beginnings as a retail textile trader in Colombo-11 in the early 1960s. This was very much of a simple livelihood for a large family of the founder.
In 1980, Mr.Jayantha Dewage one of the sons of the founder decided to take over his father’s business due to his anxiety and enthusiasm. So he became the co-founder of the business and he had a dream of building a business empire, because of the entrepreneurial inclinations in his blood. Mr. Jayantha Dewage’s vision was far sighted, although he too started with baby steps in managing the father’s business. He decided to manufacture garments than to be a mere trader as his father was He therefore decided to expand his business activities by vertical and horizontal integration.
Thus from being a retailer he managed to become a wholesaler of finished garments, fabrics and other textile items. He therefore became an importer of fabrics and readymade garments. He thereafter tied up with some of the local garment factories to provide them with imported fabrics and buy back the value added finished goods for wholesale and retail trading purposes.
Mr. Jayantha Dewage was one of the pioneers in this marketing strategy, which provided quality goods at competitive prices to the consumers and livelihood for those employed by the garment factories.
Mr. Chamira Dewage and Mr. Ruchitha Dewage being the grandsons of the Founder have now entered this enterprise as Directors with the mission to take this entity to greater heights.
